Dubit integration for kids virtual world

Tiny Planets, Newbury

Tiny Planets is a kids virtual world based on an award winning tv series launched in Australia, Canada, UK, Germany and the USA between October 2001 and April 2002, and has been aired in over 100 territories since.

The virtual world carries on from where the tv series left off and encourages learning by exploration, problem-solving and discovery for boys and girls aged 5 to 10.

A new marketing website was required to increase reach and drive signup.

Dubit integration

As are many virtual worlds, Tiny Planets is built on the Dubit game platform. Dubit is responsible for handling user accounts, avatar creation, pricing plans, subscriptions and in game purchases and payment gateways.

One of the key objectives of the new website was to increase membership of the game. This meant replicating certain subscription and purchasing functions and hosting them in the website environment.

The website’s integration with Dubit was carefully constructed and scrutinised to ensure that not only did it function perfectly, but also to ensure that processes offered the same user experience as in-game.

User experience

To enable the specification of the Dubit integration, it was necessary to carefully plan the user journey through the website based on a number of different scenarios and entry/exit points.

Several different points of integration were identified and specified throughout the process.

Rich content

A range of templates were designed paying close attention to simplifying the membership signup process and delivering clear options and navigation throughout.

Child safety compliance

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) provides strict guidelines to protect children online. The new site was carefully constructed to follow these guidelines and carries the COPPA seal. This provides parents with peace of mind that their children are exploring a safe and secure environment.
